2007 Fantasy Football Player Projection Competition Scoring

2007 Fantasy Football Player Projection Competition Results

At the close of the regular season, we evaluated each player's value as determined by the past season's statistics according to the method described in our guide for evaluating players in a fantasy points league (not head-to-head, for simplicity). We evaluated players according to a ten team league, using a standard Yahoo public league team format and scoring format. In this case, this assumed a team of QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF. We made these evaluations based on a player's aggregate statistics for the season - not on a per game basis. In this way, we assigned each player a single numerical value based on their importance in a standard fantasy football league. We repeated this process for each submitted or collected set of player projections, assessing a single value to each player according to that set of projections. Each set of player projections was evaluated by determining the difference between each player value as determined by the projection and each player value as determined by the season's actual results. The score for the set of player projections was the sum of the squares of these differences (players not included in a set of projections got a default value of zero for that projection set). The projections with the smallest sums were the top ranked projections.
